How do I.D. my old Ignitor system in my distributor?
You can identify your Ignitor by its label and material:
For the Ignitor the label reads “Ignitor” and is black epoxy.
For the Ignitor II the label reads “Ignitor II” and is red epoxy.
For the Ignitor III the label reads “Ignitor III” and has a dial on top.
Part numbers aren’t on Ignitor labels. Check the mounting plate or magnet ring for stamped numbers. If neither is stamped, the application determines the part number. For example:
1541-61: Use part 1541 for 4-cylinder or 1561 for 6-cylinder.
1542-62: Use part 1542 for 4-cylinder or 1562 for 6-cylinder.
1581-82: Use part 1581 for clip-down cap or 1582 for screw-down cap.
